ony Scherer has been an organic farmer since 1974 both in California and Australia. He made the move to Australia 20 years ago to farm vegetables, until he discovered the Frogmore Creek property in 1989, and changed his focus to growing grapes.
Tony brings to the Frogmore team a wealth of knowledge in organic and bio-dynamic farming. In the beginning months of 2001, Annette Bergevin and Amber Lane co-founded and created Bergevin Lane Vineyards with Gary Bergevin (Annette’s father). The goal for Amber and Annette was to “leave the rat race behind” in California and get back to what they each wanted from life. Annette wanted to be close to her family and long-time friends, and Amber wanted to take on new challenges and continue her personal path of growth and education. Gary’s 20 years of experience in the wine industry in both the vineyard and business aspects, was the catalyst to start the winery. Together they brainstormed, worked hard, and brought to fruition Bergevin Lane.
The Bergevin family’s roots run deep in Walla Walla, having settled in the area in the mid-1800’s. With a respected family history in the community, passion and a fair amount of risk taking, in 2003 Bergevin Lane Vineyards was born. Walla Walla shares the same latitude (46˚) as Bordeaux, France. The long, hot sunny days and cool night temperatures make for ideal growing conditions that produce ripe, structured wines. Their premium grapes are hand picked and sourced from some eight different vineyards within the Walla Walla and Columbia Valleys. Winemaker Steffan Jorgensen is originally from Denmark and brings to the team experience in winemaking from France, Chile, and Sonoma, California.
The Bergevin Lane family is dedicated to the art of creating and enjoying fine Walla Walla wines. Their winemaking vision is to create elegant styled wines that reflect harmony between fruit and oak.
Stylistically, they make wines that reflect the unique Washington terroir attributes, while maintaining integrity to the varietal characteristics. These are food friendly, fruit-driven, balanced wines that you can enjoy for any occasion. Memorable moments bind people together; therefore, we raise our glass of wine in thanks to the dream that we share and the journey we now enjoy. We invite you to experience our interpretation of Washington wines.
2008 Bergevin Lane Calico White, $15.49
Jay Miller of the Wine Advocate rated this wine a strong 89 points, with the following write-up:”The 2008 Calico White is a blend of 44 percent Viognier, 37 percent Roussanne, both partially barrel-fermented, and 19 percent Chardonnay, fermented in stainless steel. Medium straw-colored, it reveals an expressive perfume of spring flowers, honey, pit fruits, and melon. Medium-bodied, ripe and vibrant, it has plenty of concentration and excellent length. It can be enjoyed over the next three years.”

It exhibits an excellent nose of cedar, spice box, black cherry, and blueberry leading to a medium-bodied, ripe, flavorful wine with plenty of up-front appeal. This tasty effort will provide pleasure over the next 3-4 years.
” An excellent value picked as one of the top three wines in a recent Boise Weekly tasting of Northwest red blends.

Ripe dark fruit dominates the full throttle nose with sweet black cherry and blackberry. As it opens spice, earth, smoke and meat join the crowd of enticing flavors. The rich mouth feel is an explosion of these flavors. Hints of leather and minerality add to this already complex wine. There are substantial, lush, mouth-coating tannins that suggest longer term cellaring potential.
2006 Bergevin Lane Cabernet Sauvignon, $23.50

The tannins and mouth feel are smooth and medium-bodied. Black fruit and vanilla come through on the lingering finish.
With abundant sunshine and a climate perfect for growing a variety of crops, Vale Wine Co. and Vale View Vineyard were born on the Oregon Trail. Like the pioneers over a century ago, they too were attracted to the fertile hills and valleys near Vale, Oregon. John Danielson heads things up. As a fourth generation Idaho native, Danielson is a lifetime resident of the Snake River Valley AVA. He spent many hours interviewing winemakers and volunteering in wineries in Idaho, California and Washington to learn first hand about the wine making process. Returning to his farming roots, he also took on the job of planting a vineyard. As a complement to his practical experience, John is completing a certification in Oenology and Viticulture from the University of California at Davis. John loves the camaraderie of the wine industry. Today, Vale Wine Co. and Vale View Vineyard are testimonies to his attention to detail and the desire to produce high quality wine. Surrounded by mountain views and a variety of crops, Vale View Vineyard is located on the south facing slopes north of Vale, Oregon. The fertile soil, perfect exposure and clean water from the Owyhee River have enabled the vineyard to thrive. Covering about five acres, the vines planted in 2006 are painstakingly cared for by John and Vicki, along with family and friends who generously volunteer their time. Vale View Vineyard is truly a labor of love.
Due to a licensing technicality both the Boise Co-op and the Wine Shop will be unable to sell wine this weekend. The Wine Shop will be closed both days, but we hope to be up and running again on Monday. Sorry for any inconvenience.
