2008 Clif Family White, $7.99
You may recognize the name as belonging to the people behind the CLIF BAR®, LUNA®, and other nutritious organic foods and drinks. Yes, that’s the same Clif Bar & Company, or, at least, that’s where it all began. Now, they’ve extended our
passion for all things delicious and natural into the realm of wine, the ‘other’ long-standing complement to a day on the trail.
The 2008 Climber White is a unique blend of white varietals. Sauvignon Blanc sourced from Lake County, Lodi and Monterey makes up the backbone of the wine, with clean melon, citrus and gooseberry aromas. Muscat adds floral aromas and richness in the mouth. Riesling adds tropical and jasmine aromas, while also giving the mouth good acidity. Chardonnay from Monterey adds a minerality and depth in the mid palate. The Chenin Blanc increases the purity and structure of the blend. The wine is 100% stainless steel fermented and did not go through malolactic fermentation so the purity of the fruit could be enhanced. The result is classical varietal notes with a crisp, refreshing mouthfeel.
Joseph Drouhin Beaujolais-Villages, $10.99
In 1880, Joseph Drouhin, who was from the Chablis region originally, chose the city of Beaune to found the
business that bears his name. Over the years and with each generation, the vineyard estate grew. At the same time, the founder’s passionate search for excellence and knowledge was handed down like a family heirloom. Although Beaujolais is part of “Greater Burgundy,” it differs from Burgundy in many respects. Out of the 87,500 acres of Gamay planted throughout the world, 55,000 are in the Beaujolais area, spread over
38 villages. Maison Joseph Drouhin has always had a special affinity for this area and, since their
pioneering work in the early fifties, has assiduously promoted it around the world. Made from grapes harvested in villages celebrated for the quality of their terroir and micro-climate, this wine represents, vintage after vintage, the true spirit of the Beaujolais-Villages appellation. Owing to the careful blending of various terroirs, this is a wine of great charm. It has a lovely raspberry color and a brilliant hue. The nose is both refined and intense, with notes of violet, peony and concentrated red fruits. As you drink it, it feels fresh and silky. Both freshness and fruit linger nicely on the palate.
2007 Bogle Phantom Red, $16.99
bogle \bõ’g?l\ n. [Scots, perhaps from Welsh] A goblin; a specter; a phantom; a bogy, boggart or bugbear.
The coveted Phantom, Bogle’s apparition of three unique varieties, combines lush berry and fierce spice into a wine of complex character. Vivid essence of black pepper, dark fruit and juniper haunts the nose, while brighter flavors of blackberries and blueberries glance off the palate. From the shadows, toasty cinnamon and nutmeg emerge, subtly embracing the deeply luscious and succulent fruit to create a full-bodied, ruby rich wine. Captured in 1, 2 and 3 year old American oak barrels, this wine showcases the best these distinct varieties have to offer. Welcome the winery ghost into your home again with this latest vintage, and enjoy with full-flavored and hearty meals…before it vanishes again.Saturday, August 21 fro 2:00 to 4:00 pm for a free taste of these three wines.
