In May we featured the Liters in an Idaho Statesman article highlighting our top summer white picks. Unfortunately the remaining bottles of Pollerhof sold in a snap… but now it’s back! This time around we have the 2006 vintage, which is a bit richer and fruiter than the ‘05. The 2006 Austrian wines in general pack a little more punch – it was a great vintage, the likes of what we saw in 1997, which is good news for entry-level wines like this one.
This wine is a refreshing summer white, richer in body than the 05, while still retaining the classic GV snap. I love the liter, because I can use a little for cooking, have a glass while preparing dinner, and still have a full bottle of wine with the meal. It’s a perfect picnic or BBQ wine when you need enough white to keep the group happy. Not overly fruity, the scents and flavors of GV often remind me of fresh vegetable gardens – green beans, snap peas, summer squash and healthy herbs. The epitome of summer wine, and only $12.99!
