Grüner Veltliner tends to produces ethereal whites that always seem to be just out of one’s grasp. They are subtle and will never hit you over the head with flavor, but if you pay attention the beauty of flavors will be revealed. Thus, it’s always satisfying when you’ve been able to grasp the essence of an elusive Grüner Veltliner – and so it was with the Summerer.
On the surface this is a high quality Kamptal GV — clean and clear with a strong presence of mineral with snap pea freshness. But what really got me was that it felt like a true wine for a true lady. As if I needed to put on a pencil skirt, white blouse, large black hat, stockings and the perfect black & white wing-tipped heals and plant myself on some see-and-be-seen patio while sipping this wine. It’s style is sleek and refined but has just the perfect twinge of amusing raciness as if it is getting away with something in spite of (because of?) it’s ever so classy character. All classy women between the ages of 21 and death should been seen drinking Summerer this year, simple as that. As it ages the brief sense of the white pepper of it’s youth will likely become more pronounced making this wine all the more enticing for wine collectors.
